A GUIDE TO TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE BY MOVING ABROAD OR TEACHING ONLINE

REQUIREMENTS TO TEACH ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TEFL) AND TO GET THE BEST JOBS.
TESOL / TEFL certification: TESOL = Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
TEFL / EFL = Teaching English as a Foreign Language. A work permit to work abroad in many countries is a legal requirement. The easiest way to get this is to have a BA degree, an internationally recognized TESOL / TEFL qualification, and, ideally, be from a native English-speaking country. However, it is still worth getting a TESOL / TEFL if you don't have a degree and aren't a native English speaker because there are still plenty of jobs.
Prices
Prices vary significantly from $1500 to over $2000. However, some companies with no prior teaching experience have created inadequate teaching courses to turn a profit. Some say they are accredited, but upon further research, it's from a university no one has ever heard of. Some say a company accredits them, but they only have one shareholder and one director and aren't a company. These TEFL courses are unlikely to be accepted by quality language centers. Beware of words like "accepted" instead of "accredited." I recommend a provider from a recognized body, such as a leading
university or governmental institution.

Beware
There are jobs available without the need for an accredited 120+-hour course. However, you may not work legally and be unprepared to provide high-quality teaching. In addition, it will be harder to secure a job, particularly one with a good salary in a good location. There are generally three options to obtain your TESOL: face-to-face, virtual, and self-paced.
FACE-TO-FACE COURSE
Classroom courses are usually taken in the country, and you'll want to stay on and teach.
It must include international recognition and certification, "Accredited," not just "accepted."
120 hours minimum total study hours minimum observed teaching practice
Examples include: 150-hour Australian Cert IV in TESOL Trinity Cert TESOL course
Cambridge CELTA
In addition to the above, some courses will also offer added benefits such as four weeks of in-class TEFL training, low student numbers of 15-20 per class
8 hours of teaching practice with real EFL students, not just your peers 6 hours observing an experienced TEFL teacher
Written assignments, Trainer with a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Focus on teaching all ages but, in particular, children. If you want to teach in Asia, welcome a meal, go on a city tour, have free, comfortable accommodation for the duration of the course, and get job assistance.

The Importance of Accredited 120-hour TEFL
The importance of quality, accredited 120-hour TEFL is increasing when teaching abroad. A face-to-face course is often the most expensive option but the one we recommend the most. This course (if accredited by a recognized body) will help get you a job in most places in the world once you are certified. This kind, of course, will help you find a respected employer who pays well and will help you to earn back the cost of the course within a few months of teaching, especially in countries in Asia, like Vietnam,
where wages are reasonable in comparison to the low cost of living. The advantages of this course are that you get face-to-face teaching in a classroom full of like-minded people, and it should come with the all-important teaching practice. The downside are that you
must take a month off work, which can be very intensive. Also, many language centers will no longer accept unaccredited TEFL courses to obtain a work permit and required visas. Before booking a course with a company, make sure you read the
reviews. Also, don't just ask if people found a job afterward. Check if the job was legitimate, legal, and paid the going rate for that country.
